NERD NITE

The 100th Ann Arbor Nerd Nite is this Thursday at 7pm at LIVE (102 S. First Street). Three nerds talking about three nerdy topics that they are extremely passionate about. Steve Cheng will talk about why 17th century violins sound so amazing, Christina Liu will talk about the intersection of Open Street Maps and Wikipedia, and Kymm Clark will discuss how GIFS, memes and internet culture can be used to build empathy, mobilize people, and rewire communities for connection.

EUGENE S. ROBINSON

Tonight (7/8/25) from 6:30-7:30pm at the Downtown Library, we host special guest and impossible to categorize Eugene S. Robinson. A storyteller first and foremost, Eugene was the vocalist for early American hardcore band Whipping Boy before moving to the experimental punk band Oxbow and is now the lead singer of the heavy-music quartet Bunuel, based in Italy and touring the U.S. this summer. Robinson was editor for the fashion magazine Code and audio magazine EQ and had a long stint with ozy.com, while freelancing for GQ and writing a monthly column for metal magazine Decibel. He's a black belt in Brazilian jiu jitus and one of the first journalists to cover mixed martial arts, and he wrote A Walk Across Dirty Water and Straight Into Murder's Row in 2023—a memoir of his early days as a 1970s NYC punk rocker and his move into 1980s publishing.
